Homemade Baby Blocks

I have been surfing the web to find little things to make for my 4 month old. I recently ran across the idea to make homemade baby blocks. Using some scraps of material from the quilt my mother and I made for my son, I cut the scraps into squares (12 squares exactly, 6 per block). I lined the squares of scraps face down in a "T" pattern, 4 in a straight line and one on either side of the second to last square. I pinned the squares together in this form and sewed along all the edges, until I made a block, leaving only about 2 inches of the last square open so I could flip the material right side out and stuff it. I had an old ratty pillow laying around that had a lot of stuffing I could use, so I transferred the stuffing from that pillow to the blocks. After I had shaped the blocks and stuffed them, I sewed up the opening. They aren't perfect because I wasn't exact on everything, but it's not important that they be perfect. My four month old won't know the difference, its just something fun for him to play with and it made great use of my scraps I had in my craft drawer. Here's the blocks, imperfections and all:

Wedding Party Gifts - Glasses & Shot Glasses

Here are the gifts I made for the members of my wedding party. For the girls, I bought them all these very pretty glasses and decorated them based on their favorite colors. I luckily for me they all either liked pink or green, so I was able to easily find similar ribbon in the correct colors. Here's a list of the materials used to create the glasses for the girls:

• Glass Goblet
• Ribbon
• Acrylic Paint
• Fine tip paint brush
• Round Tip or round sponge paint brush
• Glue Gun & Glue
• Clear Spray Paint

I started off by gluing ribbon about an inch from the rim of the glass. Then I glued ribbon in a spiral down the stem of the glass. The next step for me was to personalize the glass by using the fine tipped paint brush to write name and their role in the wedding. (i.e. Casey - Bridesmaid) Using the round tipped paint brush I adding random dots, trying to create a polka dot pattern on the remaining area of the glass. I finished the glasses by added a coat or two of clear spray paint. This is the end result:

For the guys, I decorated shot glasses for them. Here's a list of the materials I used to make them:

• Fine Tip paint brush
• Alphabet Stickers
• Clear Spray Paint

Using the fine tipped paint brush I drew the outline of a tux jacket, making sure to create a solid and thick line. After I allowed the outline to completely dry, I filled in the outline, just like you would on a coloring page. After this, I added the guy's initials to the back of the shot glass using the alphabet stickers.  I finished the glasses by added a coat or two of clear spray paint. These are the finished result:

All in all these were simple and fun to make and really affordable.

Wedding Favors - Postcards

I've been trying to come up with a cute idea for favors for my cousin's wedding. My criteria was something cute, personal, and cheap. Somehow I stumbled across the idea of postcards.

I have some experience with graphic design so I figured I could handle designing these. I researched places to print them. I really love the quality of prints from www.mpix.com, so that was the first place I checked. I researched a few others but I think mpix is the way to go. 

It's still a work in progress and waiting on my cousin's feedback and approval. But this is what I've come up with so far. She's using a damask pattern in her ribbon and a few other details of her wedding so I decided to incorporate it.

There's still a lot of work to do. I need to find a way to include their names or a catchy phrase on the front part. The letter to the guests will change, it'll be something written by them. But I like the progress and the overall concept of this favor.

This blog is dedicated to my favorite hobbies: crafting, photography, wedding planning, and a few miscellaneous things. Sometimes I wish I could do these things full time.
